Three outstanding researchers and performers of Russian folk songs have been active in Estonia for decades: Marina Kuvaitseva and Nadežda Moskaljova in Narva and Irina Vzvartseva in Tallinn.
Three leaders and three collectives are dedicated to performing, preserving and researching old folk songs. Now they gather on one stage for the first time!
For almost 40 years, Marina Kuvaitseva has participated in ethnographic expeditions all over Estonia - Peipsiveer, Setomaa and elsewhere. He has thoroughly studied the survival and adaptation of folk songs and the dialogue between old Russian and Estonian folk songs.
Folk ensemble "Suprjadki"
The name of the ensemble, created in 1984, comes from the old "suprjadkas" - evenings when women gathered to spin, sing, tell stories and pass on traditions.
The songs, customs, games and family traditions of the Russian, Estonian, Isuri, Vadja and Seto cultures come to life in the performance of the ensemble. The ensemble's supervisor is folklorist and researcher Marina Kuvaitseva.
Tallinn folklore ensemble "Bylitsa"
"Bylitsa", created in 1996, has been preserving and performing Russian folk songs for almost three decades. The leader of the ensemble, Irina Vzvartseva, grew up on the banks of the Volga in a family where folk songs were a natural part of everyday life.
"Bylitsa" performs all over Estonia and participates in Shrove Tuesday, Tallinn Old Town Days, "Slavic Wreath" and other major cultural events.
"Bylitsa" is a voice of memory that never gets old. A song that is passed down from generation to generation.
Folklore Ensemble "Tuuleulue"
The ensemble operates under the guidance of Rugodiv Nadezhda Moskaljova of the House of Culture. The repertoire includes folk songs, songs of the anniversaries of the folk calendar, customs related to family traditions and folk games. The folklore of Ida-Virumaa has a special place.
"Tuuleulue" is music, traditions and the connection of generations that live on even today.
The purpose of the concert is to capture the performances on video in order to preserve and popularize the ethno-cultural heritage.
