PUBLICA PRODUCTION presents
In honor of Aleksandr Ivashkevich’s jubilee – a comedy that, in its essence, is actually a tragedy.
THE THEATRE MAN
Author: Thomas Bernhard
Director: Mindaugas Karbauskis
The performance is in Russian with Estonian subtitles.
A kind and loving father – a true theatre man!
An impulsive actor tormented by endless self-doubt.
A stubborn director suffering from delusions of grandeur, ruling everyone with fear.
His life is like an endless theatre performance, and the only role he’s willing to play is that of a genius.
Bruscon, a “state theatre actor,” is the main character of Austrian writer and playwright Thomas Bernhard’s most famous play The Theatre Man.
He sets off on a tour through remote corners of the countryside with a small troupe made up of his family, determined to bring his grandiose play The Wheel of History to a wide audience and achieve the recognition he believes he deserves.
But in the small town of Utzbach, an inevitable catastrophe awaits them.
Comedy or tragedy?
Seen through Bruscon’s eyes – a tragedy.
Seen from the outside – pure comedy.
But when both perspectives are combined, what emerges is ordinary life in all its complexity.
