Have you ever watched GeoWizard's adventures on YouTube or our (TOMITI) straight-line missions across Estonia and Latvia and thought: "How hard can walking in a straight line really be?"
Now is your chance to try it out for yourself! We are organizing an open straight-line hike in Ida-Virumaa, welcoming all adventure seekers who want to experience something completely different from traditional hiking. We will look at hiking trails longingly from afar, cross roads perpendicularly, and go through absolutely everything that lies on our line.
What makes this a straight-line hike?
-
The distance is about 5–6 km as the crow flies (sounds short, but it is significantly longer on the terrain!). If our whole group manages to complete this successfully, we can start dreaming bigger.
-
The main rule! We will try to deviate less than 100 meters from the straight line shown on the GPS. Otherwise, it is no longer a straight-line hike, just a walk in nature. And if we want to be very ambitious and achieve the highest level of straight-line missions—a platinum run—we are allowed to deviate by less than 25 meters.
-
We will pass through everything that falls on the line—be it brushwood, ditches, or dense thickets. (There are no yards or houses on the line, because trespassing through someone's garden with so many people is not nice.)
-
The goal of this trek is not speed, but the experience, teamwork, and experiencing the terrain exactly as it is.
Additionally, we will create a video for everyone as a keepsake of the adventure! An essential part of a straight-line mission is gathering evidence! We will hand out a few action cameras so you can capture the most exciting moments of the hike, the overcoming of obstacles, and your emotions. Later, we will edit all the footage into an awesome recap video, which every participant will receive as a keepsake.

What to keep in mind?
-
Clothing! Wear weather-resistant and scratch-proof clothes, preferably with long sleeves (brushwood is a guaranteed part of a straight-line hike!).
-
Footwear! Definitely account for the possibility of getting your feet wet. Choose shoes that stay firmly on your feet and can handle water/mud.
-
Bring along! Personal drinking water, a small snack for energy, and a change of clothes/shoes to wait for you in the car at the end of the hike.
-
Time! The distance isn't massive, but bushwhacking and crossing ditches take time. We estimate reaching the finish line around 14:00 (2:00 PM). However, the charm (and pain) of a straight-line hike is that predicting the exact time is impossible. We might move surprisingly fast or fall behind schedule due to "surprises." If you want to enjoy the day stress-free, we recommend setting aside a couple of free hours after 14:00!
Meeting Point! We will meet at the Alutaguse Health and Sports Center (Alutaguse Tervisespordikeskus), from where we will take the participants to the starting point of the hike!
Spots are limited! Since this involves moving as a compact group across the terrain, the number of spots is limited to ensure everyone has a great experience.
Prepare yourself mentally, grab a friend, and come see how straight you can move through nature!
