Exhibition “Village Life on the Northern Shore of Lake Peipus in the Early 20th Century”

Näituse periood 06.06.25-30.09.25

This exhibition offers an overview of village life on the northern shore of Lake Peipus in the early 20th century. Visitors will learn about traditional rye harvesting, haymaking, fishing, and log rafting – along with personal stories from the people of that time.

The exhibition is based on fieldwork materials preserved in the collections of the Estonian National Museum (ERM). It highlights the contributions of collectors and ethnologists who have explored this region and documented its cultural heritage.

At the heart of the exhibition is the 1936 summer fieldwork by ERM’s director Ferdinand Linnus in the Tudulinna and Rannapungerja area. He used a film camera to capture local life – particularly the everyday work at Kelu farm.

The exhibition was curated by Marleen Metslaid, a researcher at the Estonian National Museum.
