Jaan Ots is a pianist and conductor born in Tallinn. He has conducted Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Lahti Sinfonia, Hamburger Camerata, ERSO, Pärnu City Orchestra, Narva City Orchestra and Klaaspärlimäng Symfonietta. In December 2017, he debuted at the Finnish National Opera with performances of Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker".
He has worked as an assistant at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Greek National Opera. Since September 2017, he has been the conductor of the Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra.
Jaan Ots graduated from Tallinn Music High School majoring in piano and trumpet and obtained a bachelor's degree in piano majoring at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater in Mati Mikalai's piano class. He has been successful in both disciplines, winning prizes at more than twenty youth competitions in Estonia and abroad, including the 1st prize at the "Steinway&Sons" competition for young pianists in Hamburg (2003) and the 2nd prize and EMCY special prize at the "Step towards mastery" competition for young pianists in St. Petersburg (2005).
Jaan graduated from the Sibelius Academy's master's degree in conducting, supervised by Leif Segerstam and Atso Almila. During his studies, he upgraded himself as an exchange student at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) and participated in the master classes of Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mikko Franck, David Zinman, Thomas Sanderling and the Järvi Academy.
Jaan is a member of the piano trio TEOS and the Frielinghaus Ensemble.
