As part of Narva Vintage Fest 2026, a lecture by historian Aleksandr Openko "What does an old postcard say?" will be held on August 23 at 12:00 in the Narva Kultuurimaja Rugodiv.
An old postcard is not just a pretty picture - it's a real historical document. A postcard can tell about the city, its inhabitants, architecture, everyday life and people, thanks to whom we can see Narva today as it was more than a hundred years ago.
At the lecture, you will learn what types of postcards were issued at the time, how the more expensive editions differed from the mass-printed ones, why postcards with views of the Kreenholm manufactory and the Kreenholm district have been preserved much more than images of other regions of Narva, and how the story of the postcard itself can be determined based on the paper, printing inks and design details.
We talk about Emil Ignatius, the founder of Narva filokartia, we remember the contribution of the Kristin brothers to the history of the city, and we discover a lot of little-known facts hidden in old postcards.
We welcome everyone who loves the history of Narva, is interested in collecting or wants to learn to notice the exciting stories of the past in familiar objects.
